WEDDINGS AT WHEELDON TREES
Weddings at Wheeldon Trees. Breath-taking from the moment you arrive, Wheeldon Trees offers one of the Peak District’s most exclusive and romantic settings.
Owners Hazel and Steve Roche chose the Derbyshire venue for their own special day in 2022 and are now offering a very limited number of weddings from 2023.
With just six dates available each year, Wheeldon Trees offers a truly unique experience. Our 10 luxury cottages will be available for your exclusive use for three-night weekends from Friday to Monday. We provide the cottages and the setting and then it’s up to you to bring in your own suppliers to create a wedding to meet your exact needs – be it tipi, marquee or something completely different. Whatever you decide, the long weekend will enable you to go big and never go home.
Bring together your family and friends from across the UK to celebrate with you
Wheeldon Trees provides an amazing backdrop and location for your special day. We will provide 10 luxury cottages and 12 acres of stunning Peak District National Park. All you need to do is create your own very special weekend to remember.
Luxury retreat
Wheeldon Trees has seen a huge investment in luxury interiors and manicured exteriors since we purchased the retreat in 2021. We are offering you our entire retreat for a long weekend you will never forget. At your disposal will be our 5-star gold Visit England farmhouse, nine further cottages and a newly refurbished games room with pool table.
Wedding weekends
Our wedding weekends start at 3.30pm on Friday and end at 10am on Monday. The cottages sleep 36 in total and it’s entirely up to you if you wish to resell the cottages to your guests to support your costs. We can advise on appropriate costs if you choose this option.
Tipi, Marquee, or something completely different
Wheeldon Trees has one of the best views in the Peak District, looking across into a stunning valley. We have levelled an entire field so that a structure can be erected looking towards the valley. Our suppliers include Tipis in the Peak who have a huge range of structures and will be happy to provide a cost for your event.
We allow companies in to erect structures from the Thursday before your weekend and you and your team can decorate from 10am on the Friday morning. We simply ask that the structure is taken down on the Monday following your event.
Budget
Costs for the entire retreat start at £11,000 depending on your dates. We require a 25% deposit on booking and the full balance is due eight weeks before your event. Don’t forget that on top of the cost of our retreat will be your chosen structure supplier, caterers and bar. We’re happy to share our suppliers but totally understand that you may have found your favourites elsewhere.
PEAK LOVE AT WHEELDON TREES
Hazel and Steve’s weekend to remember
It only seemed right to test out Wheeldon Trees for weddings by holding our own.
We’re very busy running Wheeldon Trees plus another business, however, at the end of July, we stopped for a long weekend to bring our families together in the Peak District National Park to celebrate our wedding amidst the magic of Wheeldon.
Location
Wheeldon Trees was perfect for our small wedding. We’re set in the heart of the Peak District National Park in the middle of England. Friends and relatives travelled to us from north, south, east, and west and met us in the middle.
Our closest family stayed in the cottages from Friday evening to Monday morning and our other guests booked up local cottages and hotels close to our retreat. The cottages sleep 36 in total, so that’s 36 relatives from England, Ireland (Steve) and Scotland (Hazel) all together for one long weekend.
The legal bit
We chose to marry with just our five children at Ashbourne Registry Office on the Friday lunch time. It gave Hazel another outfit to buy and was a no-fuss option which suited us perfectly. There are plenty of locations locally to marry including the local Earl Sterndale Church and a further registry office in Bakewell, so look ahead to find your perfect location.
Tipi heaven
The main event took place in a tipi overlooking High Wheeldon and beyond it, Chrome Hill and Parkhouse Hill. Our partners were Tipis in the Peak and they have a huge option of tipis and added extras you can hire. They are local to us at Wheeldon Trees but there are plenty of other suppliers you can talk to.
Flowers
We chose to do the flowers ourselves, ordering wholesale from Wholesale Flowers Direct. We ordered on the Monday before the wedding and had them delivered in on the Thursday. They have a huge choice and the flowers were amazing.
Chef Simon
Catering was provided by private chef Simon Smith. Simon joined the party from Friday morning preparing a family dinner on the Friday night, wedding lunch and supper on the Saturday and brunch on Sunday morning.
On the menu? Think canapés of Shropshire blue pâté rolled in pecans and chives and cherry tomato and mozzarella pipettes followed by roast sirloin of beef, poached salmon with fresh lime and watercress mayonnaise. All this will be completed by dark Belgium chocolate and hazelnut ganache.
Simon has travelled the world catering for some of the biggest events. His portfolio of work includes catering for the British embassies in Paris and Vienna and a private chef onboard super yachts at the Monaco Grand Prix. He has appeared on several TV shows including This Morning and Market Kitchen.
Champagne and Wine
Majestic in Ashbourne carefully paired wines and Champagnes to accompany Simon’s menu. Prior to your event they offer a wine tasting and then can deliver on the Friday to the cottages.
Sweet Music
Music during the day on Saturday was provided by the brilliant duo Inner Vibe and in the evening, things stepped up a pace with indie rock band Punch the Air.
Hair and beauty
Several hair and beauty specialists joined us on the Saturday to help our guests prepare. The bridal party used Victoria’s Beauty at Home and Chloe from Cuco Hair. Other guests used the Feelgood Pamper Company which Wheeldon Trees has a relationship with for guests staying with us.
