The Wheeldon Trees team is celebrating after winning the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for the second year running.

The award names Wheeldon Trees in the top 10% of places to stay in the world – based on our fabulous customers’ reviews.

The first thing we need to do is thank all our guests. It was your reviews on TripAdvisor which led to this latest accolade and we cannot thank you enough. We also need to thank Team Wheeldon from Donna our head housekeeper to all our cleaners and maintenance team. All your hard work has led to this.

Every year, TripAdvisor awards travellers’ favourite destinations, hotels, restaurants, and things to do around the world, based on reviews and ratings collected over the past 12 months. The winners are a celebration of everything travellers did last year and all the places they discovered.

Fabulous people

Since we purchased Wheeldon Trees in June 2021, one of the best things about our career change has been the people we have met. We’re proud to have welcomed people from all over the world, of all ages and all with different stories to tell. In these difficult times, it’s taught us that often we’re surprisingly just the same – we’re all navigating life and the challenges it throws us. We’ve met brilliant parents with special needs children, people taking a few days away to restore their batteries, people recovering from illness, older people who thought they would never have another break again following the pandemic and families coming together to celebrate life. It’s been an honour to hear the stories. The fact that you’ve then gone home and given us a brilliant review is very humbling.

Striving to create a memorable stay

We know that it’s not cheap to go away, even for a few days. From the outset, we decided that if people are going to spend their hard-earned money at Wheeldon Trees we need to make sure they have a memorable stay.

Since purchase, we’ve thrown ourselves into renovations and improvement projects. To date, we have fully renovated four cottages and we’re about to complete our fifth. We’ve invested in new smart TVs for every cottage plus we’ve installed a new wifi network to ensure people can rely on us for both work and pleasure. We’ve renovated the games room and installed a new pool table. Outside we’ve made some of our outdoor spaces more accessible. Inside we’ve introduced a new range of locally-made toiletries made specially in Bakewell for Wheeldon Trees. We never stop as we try to make improvements and more projects will follow this winter.

Book your Peak District cottage

Wheeldon Trees is set in 12 acres of Peak District National Park and is located in one of Derbyshire’s most stunning valleys, nestled under High Wheeldon with views stretching to Chrome Hill and Dragon’s Back. The local hills were the location for the final scenes of the popular BBC series Peaky Blinders.

There are 10 sumptuous cottages to choose from. This includes three dog-friendly properties. In addition, there’s a fully accessible cottage and the luxurious Farmhouse with a wood-burning hot tub.

You’re not just getting a beautiful cottage at Wheeldon Trees. The retreat has a posh honesty shop featuring award-winning products from small businesses. In addition, the freezer is packed full of artisan ice cream and luxury-ready meals.

If you would like to explore the local area, why not borrow the retreat’s brand-new electric bikes? There are two local pubs to explore – both serve food. What’s more, we have recently added two new hybrid bikes.

There’s an outdoor children’s play area and a games room which was fully refurbished last year. Feel free to borrow DVDs and books or play air hockey or pool on the games table.

Every guest receives a Wheeldon Trees canvas tote bag containing milk, eggs, butter, High Wheeldon Rising filter coffee, tea bags, Wheeldon cookies and chocolate.
