Wheeldon Trees in the top 10% of places to stay in the world
It’s a week of celebrations as TripAdvisor names Wheeldon Trees in the top 10% of places to stay in the world. Yes, the world.
To say we’re astounded is an understatement. Our little luxury retreat has been awarded a TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice Award 2022.
Thank you!
The first thing we need to do is thank all our guests. It was your reviews on TripAdvisor which led to this latest accolade and we cannot thank you enough. We also need to thank Team Wheeldon from Donna our head housekeeper to all our cleaners and maintenance team. All your hard work has led to this.
Every year, TripAdvisor awards travellers’ favourite destinations, hotels, restaurants, and things to do around the world, based on reviews and ratings collected over the past 12 months. The winners are a celebration of everything travellers did last year and all the places they discovered.
Since we purchased Wheeldon Trees in June 2021 there has been an ongoing refurbishment project.
Farmhouse refurbishment
We started in the Farmhouse by taking it back to bricks and rebuilding the interior. New kitchen, new bathrooms and new soft furnishings featuring our own branded Wheeldon Trees wallpaper.
Our next renovation was Priestley Cottage, which sleeps three people. Following this we updated new soft furnishings in every cottage. We also built a luxury office in our grounds for people to use if they are working while with us and refurbished the games room, making it into a more grown-up space where both children and adults can play.
Wedding fever
We had a little break in July 2022 to get married (at Wheeldon) before renovating Ollerenshaw, Nadin and Mycock Cottages. Further smaller projects have included the levelling of ground for a marquee should anyone want their own wedding at Wheeldon, updating the honesty shop and manicuring our 12 acres of grounds.
Award-winning
We were rewarded for our work in March 2023 with a silver award by Visit Peak District and Derbyshire in their tourism awards.
This summer you’ll find us mostly outside ensuring our outdoor space is in the best condition possible. We’ve recently added new garden furniture so that more people can enjoy our amazing sunsets.
After the summer, we’ll be starting more renovations. Watch this space for our next adventure.
Book your Peak District cottage
Wheeldon Trees is set in 12 acres of Peak District National Park and is located in one of Derbyshire’s most stunning valleys, nestled under High Wheeldon with views stretching to Chrome Hill and Dragon’s Back. The local hills were the location for the final scenes of the popular BBC series Peaky Blinders.
There are 10 sumptuous cottages to choose. This includes three dog-friendly properties. In addition, there’s a fully accessible cottage and the luxurious Farmhouse with a wood-burning hot tub.
You’re not just getting a beautiful cottage at Wheeldon Trees. The retreat has a posh honesty shop featuring local products including hand-made granola from the local mill. In addition, the freezer is packed full of artisan ice cream and luxury ready meals.
If you would like to explore the local area, why not borrow the retreat’s brand-new electric bikes? There are two pubs to explore – both serve food.
There’s an outdoor children’s play area and a games room which was fully refurbished last year. Feel free to borrow DVDs and books or play air hockey or pool on the games table.
Every guest receives a Wheeldon Trees canvas tote bag containing milk, eggs, butter, High Wheeldon Rising filter coffee, tea bags, Wheeldon cookies and chocolate.
All cottages feature toiletries from The White Company and you can order delicious food and drink deliveries straight to your cottage from a partnership with Sauced Here. In-cottage wellness treatments can be booked during your stay with partners The Feelgood Pamper Company.
