Haddon Hall reopens on Saturday 1 April 2023

Haddon Hall and its gardens and restaurant reopens to visitors on Saturday 1 April 2023.

The medieval manor house near Bakewell has a full programme planned for visitors. This includes guided walks within the park and music on a selection of Sundays throughout the summer. In addition, there are free guided tours every Monday.

Haddon Hall’s rich history

The hall has a rich history dating back to the 12th century and has been owned by the same family, the Manners family, since 1567. It is one of the finest examples of a medieval manor house in the country and is renowned for its architectural and historical significance.

Unique features

The hall has a number of unique features, including a medieval kitchen and a long gallery that dates back to the Tudor era. The hall also boasts a number of beautiful gardens. This includes a knot garden and a rose garden, which were designed by the famous landscape architect, Sir Geoffrey Jellicoe.

Original medieval architecture

One of the most interesting features of Haddon Hall is its well-preserved architecture. The hall has undergone various renovations over the centuries, but its original medieval architecture has largely been preserved. Visitors to the hall can see features such as the medieval great hall, the chapel, and the courtyard, which are all original to the building.

Film location

Haddon Hall also has many connections to English literature. The hall has been used as a location in a number of films and television series, including Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre. The hall’s romantic and picturesque setting has also inspired many writers over the years, including the poet, John Masefield.

Open daily

The hall and gardens are open daily from 10.30 am until 4.30 pm with the last entry at 3.30 pm. The restaurant is open from 10 am to 4 pm daily.

The retreat came under new ownership in 2021. Since that time a huge investment has gone into renovating the cottages and its 12 acres of Peak District National Park. After just 18 months in business, the retreat was the runner-up in this year’s Visit Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Awards for the best accommodation.

Not just a cottage

Holidays are precious and we know that we only get one chance to make a lasting impression on our guests. Our gardeners care for our 12 acres of Peak District National Park weekly. In 2022 we renovated the games room and it now offers puzzles, board games and a games table for pool, air hockey and ping pong.

In addition to the new games room, there is an honesty shop selling posh local produce, free EV charging, wifi throughout, a children’s play area, free electric bikes to explore the local area (updated in November 2022) and a laundry room.
