2023 Peak District Sporting Events
2023 Peak District Sporting Events. January is definitely the time to book your sporting challenges. Whether it’s fell running, climbing, walking or cycling, there’s a lot on offer in the Peak District this year.
So, why not make a weekend of it by booking a trip to Wheeldon Trees Cottages for you and your spectators?
Here’s a list of some of the events taking place in 2023.
The Aplastic Anaemia Peak District Walk 2023
On Saturday, 25 February 2023 from:10 am you can join a walk from The Yorkshire Bridge Inn to Fairholmes via the east side of Ladybower Reservoir and return via the west side, following designated footpaths. The walk event is organised by The Aplastic Anaemia Trust. The entry fee is £15 for the stunning eight-mile walk, with proceeds going to charity.
Pennine Bridleway 55km Trail Run
On Saturday, 25 March 2023 from 09:30 take in some of the best views from the Pennine Bridleway on the 55km trail run. It’s a straightforward route with mixed undulating terrain. There are flexible start times and generous timings for walk-jog participants. The run is organised by Ranger Expeditions (& Ultras) Ltd and the entry fee is £50.
Grindleford Gallop
On Saturday, 11 March 2023 from 07:00 walkers and fell runners will take on the Grindleford Gallop once again. The annual 21-mile fell race starts in Grindleford. It raises money for the primary school PTA and is run by volunteers. There is room for 600 entrants in total (500 runners and 100 walkers).
Ultra X England
This two-day 110km ultramarathon takes place on Saturday 16 September 2023. The first day covers 60km and the second 50km. Both days are looped courses starting and finishing in Edale. There is also the option to run just the second stage (50km) on Sunday as a separate event.
The Peaks Tour Sportive 2023
This sportive takes you on an adventure through the stunning Peak District National Park. You won’t be disappointed as you take on challenging climbs, and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. With three distances on offer, why not up the difficulty ante at this professionally run, friendly event?
The event takes place at Bakewell Showground, Bakewell DE45 1AH on Saturday 2 September 2023.
Peak District Cottages

We’re one of three finalists in this year’s Visit Peak District and Derbyshire Tourism Awards in the category of best self-catering accommodation.
