In 2025 we celebrate the 250th birthday of Jane Austen - so what exactly is…
What’s new at Wheeldon Trees Cottages?
What’s new at Wheeldon Trees Cottages? It’s been a while since we updated everyone on Wheeldon Trees so here’s a little update from our Peak District Cottages.
Ollerenshaw and Nadin Refurbishment
November will see us temporarily close Ollerenshaw and Nadin Cottages for a major makeover. As you’ll know if you follow us, in 2022 we have already refurbished the Farmhouse and Priestley Cottage. We’re delighted with the response to both of these projects and are now turning our attending Ollerenshaw and Nadin. Both cottages will be having new kitchens and last week we chose new Derbyshire granite for both work surfaces. Oak flooring with underfloor heating is being installed in the living areas of both cottages and new carpets for the bedrooms are on order. New bathrooms are being installed in both and we’re once again working with Hazel’s cousin Arlene on the design of these. In the last few months, every cottage has had new linen blinds, painstakingly made by Ali at Home of Curtain and Blinds.
Both cottages will reopen at the beginning of December ready for Christmas. We’ll update our social media channels as we go to show you our progress.
New electric bikes
New this month are two brand new electric bikes for our guests to use. We already have four bikes, but wanted to offer our guests the very latest technology with new lighter-weight bikes. If you visit us and borrow them (always for free) we’d be really pleased if you could feed back how you found them. The plan is to add to our range so all feedback is gratefully received.
Games room (Long Room) remodel
The games room remodel is now complete. We have added a beautiful ash table which seats eight where friends and family can dine together if they are spread across several cottages. New oak flooring, decoration, new storage and our air hockey, ping pong and pool table complete the room. If you wish to book our room while staying with us, just let us know.
Family update
As if our Derbyshire cottages didn’t keep us busy enough, there are also five amazing children in the background. The two eldest are serving members of the Armed Forces and we couldn’t be prouder. To support the armed forces we have recently added a new discount code for serving personnel bookings. All you need to do is let us know prior to booking and we will provide the code for you to use.
Further afield, the middle child is now on a year away from university and undertaking a business internship in Malta. Number four is in his last year of A Levels and learning to drive (steer clear of any blue Fords) and the youngest continues to mix sleep with school, swimming and netball.
Thank you
Finally, a thank you to everyone who has stayed with us in 2022. As a small family business, we really do appreciate the support. We would also like to thank our dedicated team. They have worked tirelessly, ensuring we live up to our Visit England 5-star award for cleanliness. Led by Donna, they have also delivered many smiles to our guests across the year.
Right, on to planning Christmas…Oh, and don’t forget about our wreath-making weekend in December – more information here.
