In 2025 we celebrate the 250th birthday of Jane Austen - so what exactly is…
Celebrating UK coffee week
Celebrating UK coffee week. We didn’t even know it was a thing, but we’re happy to celebrate our friends at Peak Bean this week.
Peak Bean has been supplying our Wheeldon High Rising Coffee pouches since June 2021. In that time, we estimate we’ve given more than 500 packs of our own branded coffee to guests in their luxury welcome tote.
Meet Peak Bean
Peak Bean began its roots in a small café run by Deirdre and Andrew, founded in the beautiful village of Hayfield, High Peak, Derbyshire. Alongside serving delicious homemade cakes and soups, they loved serving a variety of barista standard coffee drinks.
However, whilst they aimed to source locally as much as possible, there was a struggle to find freshly roasted coffee to serve. So, they decided to try it for themselves, bought a roaster and started experimenting with their very own blends.
Peak Bean continues to carefully roast single bean batches. They create a variety of blends and now have a range of freshly roasted coffees that they are really proud of. The coffee bursts with freshness, and flavour and really hits the spot.
The team is dedicated to keeping the traceability of the product as transparent as possible. Peak Bean definitely likes to know where the coffee beans they roast come from. This is why they source from various cooperatives. They pay that little bit extra to help those farmers and enable them to put some of their profits back into their local communities. Many of these cooperatives are certified with The Fairtrade Foundation. Fairtrade supports farmers and workers around the world to protect workers’ rights and improve their lives and communities.
Honesty Shop
In addition to giving away coffee in our tote bags, we also sell larger packs of Peak Bean’s Wheeldon High Rising in our honesty shop. The honesty shop is home to luxury treats. This includes chocolate, popcorn, crisps, pasta sauces, beautiful ready meals and ice cream courtesy of Dalton’s Dairy. We always have a fruit basket in the shop for guests to help themselves. Next to the basket, we keep a stock of free olive oil, garlic, herbs and spices. Perfect for anyone cooking up a storm in their Derbyshire cottage.
Luxury Tote
While we’re sure we’re not the only Peak District holiday cottages with their own branded coffee, we do think that we give out the best tote bags. The rattan bags are for guests to keep. Inside, as well as our Peak Bean coffee, you’ll find local milk, eggs and butter, Yorkshire tea bags, Birds’ fruit cake and chocolate lollies and a pack of Wheeldon Trees postcards.
