In 2025 we celebrate the 250th birthday of Jane Austen - so what exactly is…
Peak District Ice cream
Peak District ice cream. We’re totally blessed at Wheeldon Trees to be surrounded by amazing ice cream.
If you don’t want to leave your cottage or fancy an evening snack, our honesty shop is the place to head. In the freezer you’ll always find Dalton’s Dairy. Dalton’s is a family-run company with lots of energy and new ideas for flavours. Farming on the southern edge of the Peak District, they’re in the perfect location for a successful dairy farm. Our favourites include mint crisp, honeycomb and salted caramel.
Further afield – but not too far away
Tagg Lane
Just a hop, skip and a jump away from Wheeldon Trees is Tagg Lane Dairy. What’s more, every single one of their luxury flavours is hand crafted with the finest all-natural ingredients they can get our hands on, from the fresh fruit in the fruit flavours to the cocoa in their award-winning chocolate. For example, flavours include Stracciatella, pistachio verde di bronte (two stars from Great Taste) and mascarpone and fig. Alongside ice-cream the team also has a coffee shop and sells raw Jersey milk.
Pomeroy Farm
Pomeroy has been producing ice cream since 2017. They use whole milk from their own dairy cows. As well are all the flavours you would expect to find they have a luxury range on rotation. This includes lemon pie, rocky road, Biscoff and Oreo.
Matlock Meadows Ice Cream Farm
Working dairy farm Matlock Meadows has a coffee shop and ice cream parlour. Based on the real working family dairy Farm ‘Masson Farm’, it has been in the Dakin family since the 1930s. The quality, ‘farm assured’ milk from their own dairy herd is used to make artisan Italian style gelato. Expect flavours including raspberry ripple, parma violet and mascarpone mocha.
