Things to do in the Peaks with children
Looking for things to do in the Peaks with children? We’ve put together a list of our favourite family things to do in Derbyshire and beyond.
Buxton Museum & Art Gallery
Buxton Museum & Art Gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm. Last admission is 4pm. The museum hosts a changing programme of events. There are two permanent exhibitions – The Wonders of the Peak and the Boyd Dawkins Study.
Buxton Leisure Centre
Buxton Leisure Centre has a 25m pool and is open from 6.30am to 9pm Mondays to Fridays. On Saturdays it’s open from 8am to 4pm and on Sunday 8am to 7pm.
Chatsworth House Farmyard and Adventure Playground
The famous gardens at Chatsworth House contains spectacular waterworks and you are welcome to walk, picnic and play here and in the surrounding park. The farmyard and adventure playground welcomes young visitors and families and has special activities throughout the year.
Gulliver’s Kingdom
Discover thrilling rides and amazing attractions at Gulliver’s Kingdom, Matlock Bath. Enjoy adrenaline-fuelled adventures all with spectacular views thanks to its impressive hillside setting. In addition, the log flume is 300 foot above Derwent Valley!
Heights of Abraham
Enjoy a ride up in a cable car from just upstream of the Railway Station. The Heights of Abraham car crosses the main road and rises up to the rocky heights of 450 feet. At the top you will find two show caverns. There are also exhibitions and a play area.
High Peak Bookstore and Cafe
Why not visit our neighbours to enjoy their amazing bookstore and cafe? There’s a large selection of children’s books and lots of brilliant cakes to enjoy at High Peak Bookstore.
Alton Towers
No trip is complete without a visit to Alton Towers. Fun for the whole family, whatever the season or weather. This December there’s a brand new magical Towers Street Christmas Market, with 60 wonderful market stalls. All year round younger children can enjoy CBeebies Land.
Peak Wildlife Park
Peak Wildlife Park has large walkthroughs to allow you to come face to face with exotic and endangered animals from across three continents. There’s also a brilliant indoor play area for younger children.
